Supporting Employee Wellbeing in the Workplace: Q&A with Ribble Cycles

As we celebrate our fifth year working with Ribble Cycles, we caught up with Austin Gray, Head of Operations, to understand why they continue to invest in employee wellbeing programmes with YOLO Wellbeing and how it’s impacting their people and business performance.

“Having a calm and supportive environment to decompress has directly contributed to improved work ethic and overall morale.”
– Austin Gray, Head of Operations, Ribble Cycles

Q: What led you to start working with YOLO Wellbeing?

Austin:
Our decision to collaborate with YOLO Wellbeing began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when we saw a sharp rise in both sales and new hires. While our operations grew, so did the mental health challenges at work. Staff were under increasing pressure, and we knew we had to invest in a structured workplace mental health support strategy.

YOLO Wellbeing offered a solution that provided immediate, practical help. Their on-site wellbeing sessions gave our employees a calm, supportive environment to relax, recharge and manage stress more effectively. Their role became essential in our broader mental health and wellbeing approach.

Q: Are those still the same reasons today?

Austin:
Yes, and in fact, the value of our partnership has only deepened. With growing awareness around mental health in the workplace, the YOLO Experience has become a cornerstone of how we care for our team.

Life and work remain demanding, and providing a regular opportunity for staff to decompress plays a big role in creating a more balanced, resilient, and supportive work culture.

Q: Ribble Cycles has seen a lot of change in recent years. How has the YOLO Experience helped support staff through that?

Austin:
Having a consistent, calm space where staff can decompress has been vital. It’s more than a perk — it’s part of the way we help our team stay emotionally well during change. The result is clear: improved morale, better team engagement, and a stronger work ethic.

YOLO’s approach has helped us navigate transitions with more resilience in the workplace, which ultimately supports both our people and our performance.

Q: As Head of Operations, have you personally benefited from YOLO Wellbeing?

Austin:
Absolutely. YOLO helped me begin a personal journey in mental health self-care, and I’ve gained tools that not only support me, but also help me lead better. It’s given me the emotional resilience to support others and understand how corporate wellbeing services can make a real impact.

Q: What advice would you give other businesses that see employee wellbeing as a challenge to implement?

Austin:
It’s actually much easier than people think. When we launched the YOLO Experience, it generated immediate buzz and was fully booked straight away. The YOLO team handles all logistics, so integrating their employee wellbeing services was seamless.

Their flexibility allowed us to focus on people — not planning.

Q: What would you say are the three biggest benefits of working with YOLO Wellbeing?

Austin:

  1. It shows our employees we care. That builds loyalty, trust, and a committed workforce.
  2. It offers structured support. Managers have a trusted resource when staff are struggling.
  3. It changed my personal view on wellbeing. YOLO gave me access to insights and tools I didn’t even know I needed, which continue to help me both personally and professionally.
